Little Green Steps

Pre-school Sustainability Program

Little Green Steps Logo

The Little Green Steps Program, coordinated by Gosford and Wyong Councils, promotes environmental sustainability to preschools and early childhood centres on the Central Coast.  The program provides resources and tools to assist pre-school staff communicate environmental messages to children aged 3 to 5 years. The program includes:

  • Resource kits, on the topics of waste, water, wildlife, energy and stormwater, that are provided to local centres.
  • In-service training to early childhood educators through professional development workshops.   
  • A quarterly newsletter provides centres with up-to-date information on a range of topics relating to sustainability and environmental education. Download the latest newsletter (PDF file, 380kb) or see past newsletters below.   
  • On-going support to centres in relation to sustainability education activities.

Evaluation of the Little Green Steps program was been carried out, as detailed in the attached evaluation report (PDF File, 569kb).

Water education program

Wyong and Gosford Councils have developed a water education program for pre-schools in the Central Coast.  The program includes:

  • A 30-minute water activity suitable for children aged 3-5 years delivered by the Water Education Officer.  
  • Assistance with undertaking a simple water audit to review current water usage and assist them to better manage their water supply.  
  • Water education resources and information.
