Kincumber Creek Riparian Rehabilitation

Stage 1 of the Kincumber Creek Riparian Rehabilitation Project was initiated in response to an acknowledgement of the poor water quality in Kincumber Creek and the potential for rehabilitation of the riparian zone as a means to not only improve water quality, but also to create habitat for native animals, to increase biodiversity and improve visual amenity.

The Kincumber community was consulted throughout the project, which was implemented through a Council/Central Coast Community Environment Network partnership and funded through Gosford City Council's environmental levy.

Stage 1 of the project included the development of the Kincumber Creek Riparian Management Plan, which outlined present conditions along the creek and made recommendations in the form of an action plan for 2003. These actions included professional bush regeneration, seed collection and plant propagation, community workshops, development of educational material, installation of signs and fencing, community planting days and tree giveaways.

Information Sheets and Reports

The Kincumber Creek Riparian Management Plan documents are available from the document gallery section of the web site.

The information sheet How to care for Kincumber Creek (PDF file, 334kb) provides important information on the project.

Stage 1 of the project was demonstrated by a thorough evaluation process to be an overwhelming success, and a grant has been received from the New South Wales Government Environmental Trust to fund Stage 2 of the Kincumber Creek Riparian Rehabilitation Project. This will include more bush regeneration, fencing, community education and the formation of a Kincumber Creek bushcare group.

The evaluation report for Stage 1 of the project (PDF file, 1004kb) is also available for view/download.
