Gosford City Council is responsible for flood risk management in the Gosford Local Government Area (LGA). The Council is progressively preparing floodplain risk management plans for various flood prone areas in the LGA.

As part of this flood risk management planning, the Council has initiated a review of the Narara Creek Flood Study, Floodplain Risk Management Study & Plan to manage the flood risk in the Narara Creek catchment.

Floodplain risk management (FRM) in Gosford LGA is undertaken as per the State Government’s guidelines provided by NSW State Government through the Floodplain Development Manual. The FRM process involves data collection, preparation of a Flood Study, Floodplain Risk Management Study and Floodplain Risk Management Plan.

Council has commissioned Golder Associates to undertake a study to identify flood risk management measures for all major creeks in the Narara Creek catchment, and prepare a management plan.

The study area is the entire Narara Creek catchment, which includes Narara Creek tributaries such as:

• Fountain Creek
• Stoney Creek
• Wyoming Creek
• Wingello Creek
• Bradys Gully

The catchment covers the suburbs of Somersby, Narara, Niagara Park, the western part of Lisarow, Wyoming, the southern part of Mount Elliot, North Gosford, West Gosford and part of Gosford itself.

Community Consultation

A comprehensive community consultation program will be devised to inform the community about the progress of the study and seek information and feedback from the community relevant to floodplain risk management.
