A contentious political climate was created throughout 2016 within Australia, due to a Federal election, which included big personalities with even greater ambitions, controversial policies and public scandals. Exploiting this satirical gold was Australian cartoonists and the exhibition Behind the Lines: The Years Best Political Cartoons 2016 celebrates these artists’ endeavours.
Another year in Australia’s unique, vibrant and fearless tradition of political cartooning where no politician, party or policy is safe from the nation’s best cartoonists; witty, powerful or ribald, the images offer an astutely observed journey through twelve months in the Australian political landscape. These cartoons capture the spirit of our democracy with its passion, scepticism and above all, humour.
A special entry fee of $5 ($3 concessions/$10 family) will be charged for Bare
and Behind the Lines
. The entry fee covers admission into both exhibitions.
