Adult Literacy

The following resources are available for adults who are learning to speak, read and write English.  The collection is located at Gosford Branch, but titles can be transferred to other branches on request.

Literacy non-fiction

This collection contains books and other resources to help with grammar, spelling, definitions and exam preparation. It is located in the literacy section at the Gosford branch, and is marked with The Reading Hotspot logo.

Simplified novels and books

Simplified texts are available for adults in seven levels, from beginner to advanced.  Many also contain an audio version of the text on CD.  These are located in the literacy section at the Gosford branch, and are marked with The Reading Hotspot logo.

ESL meet and greet

The ESL meet and greet conversation group meets at Gosford Library ​every week on a Tuesday.  Come and practice general English conversation in a relaxed setting in the library.

This is not a formal class, but a chance to practice conversation.  No bookings are required.  Light refreshments provided.

Book Clubs

If you enjoy reading, we have Book Clubs to suit everyone. Contact your nearest Branch for further details.

If you are running your own reading group, we have kits that provide everything you need. To use the service, book club members must also be members of the Central CoastLibrary Service. Kits are lent for 6 weeks to a coordinator and there may be a waiting list. Contact your nearest Branch for details.

Knitting groups

Join us at one of our knitting groups.

  • Knit 'n' Knatter group meet at Bateau Bay Library on the second and fourth Friday of the month from 10am.
  • Knitwits meet at Tuggerah Library on the first Friday of each month from 9am.
  • Lake Haven Library on the first and third Saturday on the month, 10am-1pm.
  • The Entrance Library every Wednesday, 10am-12pm
  • Toukley Library the second and fourth Friday of the month, 10am-12pm
  • Umina Library Knitters meet every Monday and Thursday from 10am

Colour me Calm - Colouring in for Adults!

Join our informal group for an hour or two of relaxing colouring in! We provide the designs and pencils or you can bring your own.

Bateau Bay Library: 10.30am on the first Saturday of the month at Bateau Bay Library. Bookings are required for catering purposes. Call 4350 1580 to reserve your spot or for more information.

Kings of war

"The proof of battle is action.... No time for speeches now, it's time to fight!" - Homer, The Iliad

Kings of War is a tabletop war game where two groups of teams compete against each other with armies of miniatures or take control of heroes on perilous adventures.

Whether just to watch, or join in come along to our fun and social monthly sessions at Lake Haven  or Tuggerah Libraries. Call 4350 1570 or 4350 1560 for more information.
All ages sessions are held every four weeks at Tuggerah Library on a Saturday and start at 12 noon.
