A Gosford City Library Initative

Jean Genies provides:

an opportunity for public libraries across Australia, in 2012 - “The National Year of Reading”, to engage youth in a fun, spontaneous program.

Drawing inspiration from Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants series, by Ann Brashares, the program sees nine pairs of jeans travelling between 40 rural, metropolitan and regional public libraries. Participating libraries will be decorating the jeans, hosting programs and displays, before sending the jeans to the next library.

In previous years New South Wales libraries have developed an exciting range of activities including craft workshops, film nights, intergenerational programs and outreach events. Libraries, including International Libraries have been encouraged to take photos of the jeans in iconic locations, inviting local schools or youth groups to be creative and artistic.

Photos and information will be available as the jeans travel:

5/3/2012   to 23/3/2012       10/4/2012 to 30/4/2012       14/5/2012 to 1/6/2012       18/6/2012 to 11/7/2012

Jean Genies launched Thursday 23rd February 2012 at Erina Library

Each pair of Jean Genies has been named after Australian young adult authors.
