Local History Collection

Gosford City Library boasts an excellent collection of historical and current references that relate specifically to the Gosford City Council area and the Central Coast.

The collection includes books, images, oral histories, serials, pamphlets and newspapers, and is located in the Central Library in Donnison Street, Gosford. Other Libraries have a smaller Local Area collection.

Local History Resources on the Web

These fact sheets, pamphlets and database have been put together by library staff to assist students and other interested persons to find basic local history information.

  • Gosford and District in Pictures database
    Thousands of historic photographs from the Local Studies Collection of Gosford City Library.  Search by locality, subject or theme.  A great resource for students, local and family historians.
  • Local Histories
    Brief fact sheets on the histories of local suburbs including Gosford, Erina, Kincumber and Wyoming, and of major events in the local area.
  • Place names in the local area
    Find the meaning and/or origin of the name of your suburb!
  • Historical Population and Census Information
    Information on population growth in the area, including early Census Lists.
  • Subdivision Maps
    Historic maps from the 1880s to the 1930s showing the development of the Gosford area.
  • Gosford District guides 1900s-1960s
    These guides were published from the 1900s to 1960s to encourage tourism and commerce in the Gosford area.  They provide historic information as well as giving an interesting overview of what life was like in the area at this time. These guides are great for school projects!
  • Mann Street South Heritage Walk
    A self-guided historic walk in the centre of Gosford.
