Where can I ride the bicycle?
Woy Woy is the starting point to the beautiful Gosford cycleways - just take a look at http://www.gosford.nsw.gov.au/road_safety/cycleways.html for details.
It is recommended you stick to the shared pathways of Gosford. From Woy Woy Library there is the shared path along Brick Wharf Road and the Woy Woy foreshore, which continues to the Peninsula Leisure Centre. For other places to cycle visit www.gosford.nsw.gov.au/cyclingguide/

You can borrow the bicycle for up to two (2) hours between the times of:
Monday to Friday 10.00 to 4.00
Saturday 10.00 to 1.00
Sunday 1.00 to 3.00
The bike is not available to borrow on Public Holidays or any other day that the library is closed
Who can help me ride the bike?
You will need to bring your own Captain (an experienced rider who controls the bike and directs you, the Stoker) Please have your Captain lined up before coming to the library to collect the bicycle for a ride
Do I have to wear a bicycle helmet?
It is a legal requirement that you wear an approved helmet at all times. Please bring your own helmet.
Should I have insurance?
It is recommended that you take out your own insurance. The bicycle is not covered in the event of an accident. If you wish to utilise the bicycle for cycling on a regular basis it is advised that you become a member of Bicycle NSW which entitles you to $20,000,000 worth of public liability insurance in the event of an accident on the path or road with a pedestrian, vehicle or another user. Visit www.cyclecover.com.au for details
What if I have an accident?
It is expected that you borrow this bike at your own risk and that you will take all reasonable care when using the tandem bicycle. You are to contact the ambulance and wait for medical attention to arrive and/or fill out an incident report sheet.
What if the tandem gets stolen?
You are to report this matter immediately to the Woy Woy Library and the matter will be addressed. It is requested that you keep an eye on the bicycle at all times and that if you need to leave the bicycle, please secure it adequately to bicycle parking or to a pole.
What if I get a flat tyre?
It is advisable that you return the bicycle to Woy Woy Library where it can be repaired if required. We ask that you avoid glass and other such items. It is anticipated that you will walk the bicycle back.
Do not try to change the rear tyre as this will involve removing the wheel and the internal hub mechanism from the bicycle frame, which may result in an accident.
If you have a puncture/flat tyre at the front you may wish to change the tyre, however, please report this matter if this happens
Road Rules - What do I need to know including etiquette?
A tandem bicycle is recognised as a bicycle. By definition it has two wheels and is non-motorised as a result you are legally allowed to ride on the road. However like all road users courtesy and care is expected at all time.
Be predictable! Do not weave in between parked cars.
Give clear indications to motorists and pedestrians of your intentions. Try not to forget your fellow tandem rider.
On cycleways always keep to the left and when overtaking provide plenty of room and shout "passing!" or "passing on your right!". This creates communication between you and the pedestrian. Pedestrians may be hard of hearing, engaged in conversation or looking elsewhere so it is important to be clear when indicating your intentions.
The Australian Road Rules stipulate that you must not ride on the footpath in NSW. It is not recommended to cycle on the footpath as this can lead to user conflict and pedestrians becoming upset.
Always give way to pedestrians when on a path or cycleway. This is obvious as a pedestrian walks an average of 4kph whereas a bicycle can go a lot faster as a result and be seen to more dangerous.
Can I lend this bike to somebody else?
Absolutely not, you have signed the form and acknowledged that you are the responsible borrower of the tandem bicycle therefore only those who have signed the form will be allowed to use the bicycle.
Can we ride at night time?
No, the bicycle is not equipped with lights and Council Cycleways do not provide enough lighting to enable use at night.
In the event that you wish to cycle during the night you would be advised to join the Cycling NSW AWD (Athletes with Disabilities) program at Dunc Gray Velodrome where there is adequate lighting. Visit www.cyclingnsw.org.au for details on their AWD program.
