Community and Cultural Grants now open

02. 04. 2008 01:00

Local community and cultural groups are being given the opportunity to share in $200,000 worth of grants from Gosford City Council.

Mayor of Gosford City, Clr Jim Macfadyen, said he was delighted with supporting grass root events and services through the 2008/2009 Community and Cultural Grants program.

"Our City is renowned for its strong sense of community and as a vibrant area for creativity, the grants program allows us to nurture these activities at a neighbourhood level," said Mayor Macfadyen.

"They play an important role in the development of a cultural identity for Gosford and support Gosford City's Vision 2025 objectives," he said.

"If your community or cultural group is interested in running a new program, service or event, then I encourage you to apply for a Council grant."

The Community Development and Cultural Grants Program is funded annually by Gosford City Council and provides financial assistance for community development activities that will enhance the standard of living and quality of life for people living and working in the Gosford Local Government area.

The program consists of grants in three main areas -- community development, culture and community safety -- and is open to non-profit community organisations and Council committees.

In previous years, these grants have provided funding for events like the Family Flicks evenings, the Bloodtree Festival at Kulnura, an Aboriginal Elders debutante ball, International Highland Dancing Championships of Australia and community gardens.

Applications close Friday, April 18. Grant application forms are available from Council’s website, www.gosford.nsw.gov.au or applicants can make an appointment with Council's Community Partnerships Team.
