Dam levels respond well to rainfall

28-04-2008 04:35 PM

Central Coast dam levels have responded well to the past week’s heavy rainfall with overall levels rising to a four year high of 28.9%

Since last Monday, 21 April 2008 total dam storage has increased by 2.2% or 4,518 million litres of water.

Wyong Shire Mayor Warren Welham said the increase in storage over the past week is a great boost to the Central Coast water supply.

“We have captured and stored over 4,500 million litres of water which is about 10 weeks usage for the entire Central Coast or the equivalent of 4,500 Olympic swimming pools” said Cr Welham.

“This is a great boost for the Central Coast and for residents who can now see the positive side to a very wet school holiday period.”

Gosford City Mayor Jim Macfadyen said that Central Coast residents were continuing to be careful with their water usage, with demand remaining under the previous Level 4 water restriction target.

“Central Coast residents have proved that they will remain one of the most water efficient communities in Australia, regardless of the level of water restrictions they are on” said Cr Macfadyen.

“Since moving to Level 3 water restrictions water usage has remained below the Level 4 water restrictions target, indicating that our community is continuing to aim for the 150 litre per person per day target.

“This, combined with the recent rainfall, means that our water supply system can continue to recover from what has been our worst drought on record.”
