Free Iranian-themed film night

An Iranian multicultural film and supper night to be held at Erina Youth Centre on April 18 at 6.30pm, continues the monthly cultural evenings promoting harmony and diversity in our community.

Hosted by Gosford City Council Youth Services and the Central Coast Multicultural Project, the Iranian event follows the success of the previously hosted African film night. The nights aim to celebrate a different culture each month over the coming year.

The film nights are being conducted to support inclusiveness, participation and integration of multicultural communities on the Central Coast, according to Council's Manager of Community Development, Helen Polkinghorne.

"With over 102 different languages spoken on the Coast, the film nights provide a platform for bringing the Coast's multicultural communities together to exchange ideas and support, while also promoting harmony and diversity in our community," said Ms. Polkinghorne.

The April film night will celebrate the culture of Iran, by showing the award winning film, Offside, as well as showcasing traditional Iranian food and dance. The drug and alcohol-free event is suitable for all ages, though parental guidance is recommended.

Offside, by Iranian writer and director, Jafar Panahi is a humanistic story that reveals the qualities that draw us all together despite surface differences to unite for a moment of celebration.

Tickets are free and available from Erina Library. The film is rated PG for parental guidance recommended.
