Railway to rainforest trail to receive $100,000 upgrade

17-04-2008 12:00 AM

Bushwalkers, joggers and mountain bikers will benefit from Council's recent success in obtaining a $100,000 Metropolitan Greenspace Grant from the Department of Planning.

The key initiative of the Metropolitan Greenspace Program is to improve links between bushland, parks, waterways and centres.

Council applied for the grant under the Coastal Open Space System (COSS), to undertake the restoration of a section of the railway to rainforest trail that connects Gosford CBD to the Katandra Reserve rainforest at Holgate.

The trail runs through the Rumbalara Reserve to the Katandra Reserve and provides the local community with a bushland setting for jogging, walking and cycling.

The first stage of the project is set for completion by December 2009, with the entire project expected to take several years to complete.

For further information, please contact Council's Manager of Open Space and Leisure Services, Phil Moore, on 4325 8471.
