Woy Woy Road to remain closed until further notice

29. 04. 2008 00:00

Woy Woy Road will remain closed in both directions until further notice with road users advised to take alternate routes.

The roadway, near Woy Woy Bay at Horsefield Bay, was closed after a section became unstable and subsided following the heavy rain in the area.

Council staff, geotechnical consultants and Road and Traffic Authority (RTA) officials are currently on-site investigating the cause of the subsidence and are working together to get the road open as quickly as possible, according to Council's Director of City Services, Stephen Glen.

"Residents who use Woy Woy Road to access the freeway are advised to utilise alternative routes," said Mr. Glen.

"We want to advise motorists that there will inevitably be delays, especially during peak times, and ask road users to allow for extra time for their journey," he said.

"Council will keep residents informed of any updates. We apologise for any inconvenience caused."

Further signage will also be erected to alert the public about the closure and alternative routes. Council has asked the public to obey safety signs and barriers that have been placed in the area.

Council will continue to keep residents informed through media releases, Council's website at www.gosford.nsw.gov.au and contact with local residents.
