A Chinese experience

11-08-2008 12:00 AM

A free Chinese-themed film and supper night, promoting harmony and diversity is to be held on Friday, 22 August, at the Erina Youth Centre from 6.30pm.

The evening will feature an array of Chinese cuisine and screen section one of the 5th National Youth Acrobatics Competition.

The sub-titled film showcases talented young acrobats from across China competing for the highest national prize set up by China's Ministry of Culture for traditional culture and art.

Hosted by Gosford City Council's Youth Services, the Central Coast Multicultural Project and the Chinese community on the Central Coast, the event is the sixth in a series of film nights that will celebrate a different culture each month in 2008.

Council's Acting Manager Community Development, Robyn Howes said, "With over 102 different languages spoken on the Coast, the film nights provide a platform for bringing the Coast's multicultural communities together to exchange ideas, and support their participation and integration in the community.

"These events help us to appreciate each culture within our community and learn more about what makes them unique," she added.

The previous film nights, which showcased South American, African, Filipino, French, and Iranian-Persian culture, saw an overwhelming response and proved to be a fun event for all involved.

The event is drug and alcohol-free. Tickets are free and available from Gosford City Council's customer service desk at Erina Fair, located in Erina Library.
