Help us celebrate National Water Week

19 - 25 October 2008

Gosford City and Wyong Shire Councils are celebrating National Water Week next week and want you to get involved.

The Councils are getting out and about during National Water Week with a number of events for all the family.

Gosford City Council Mayor Chris Holstein said the Councils were keen to keep water high on the agenda for Central Coast residents.

“National Water Week is about reminding everyone water is still a very important issue across the country,” he said.

“The theme for this year’s National Water Week is Clean Water: Essential for Life.

“This is especially important here on the Central Coast where the health of our waterways and fantastic beaches is important to all of us, as is the security of our water supply.

“The Councils will be out and about during National Water Week to make sure we are all thinking about our local water situation as we come into the summer months.

“It’s also a great opportunity for the Councils to recognise the hard work of our community, who have changed the way they use water and survived the worst drought on record.”

Wyong Shire Council Mayor Bob Graham said the Council activities across the week will allow everyone to get involved.

“The Councils have organised a number of events to keep the water message flowing,” he said.

“We will be covering all levels of formal education with visits to Woongarrah Kids Academy, Wyong Public School and the Ourimbah Campus of University of Newcastle.

“High Schools across the region will also be covered with the local water supply information provided on the Councils’ Blue Planet website.

“On top of that the Councils are running a booked-out tour of the local water supply system and are showcasing the progress to date on the Mardi-Mangrove Link project at local shopping centres.”

Other activities during the week include the Banksia Fun Fest and the Putt Putt Regatta. The Councils will have water information displays and Whizzy the Water Drop at both of these events.

To round off the week Wyong Shire Council will be holding a commissioning ceremony for a recycled water project at Gwandalan Public School.
