Celebrating Summer in the City, Kibble Park will come alive with several free cultural events from January 19-25.
Live art, musicians, light shows, buskers, jazz concerts, dancing, interactive workshops, boutique markets and special Chinese New Year celebrations are just some of the highlights of the Summer in the City program, according to Council’s Cultural Development Coordinator, Elio Gatti.
“Gosford's Kibble Park will host a stunning procession of activities, including four enchanted evenings based around a different theme – youth carnivale, jazz, the ARTS and a gala celebration,” said Mr. Gatti.
"Summer in the City was a concept envisaged to bring people together to celebrate our land and the ARTS, as well as contributing towards the future growth of our City.”
Magicians, stilt walkers, chalk artists, buskers, face painters, boutique markets, chill-out spaces, and evolving installations on trees will appear at the carnivale-themed youth night on Thursday, January 22, from 3pm.
Sit back and chill to the sounds of Jiri Kripac from Red Hot Papa, Carol Ralph & Band, Dorian Mode, Lee Hardisty & Jake Cassar, and more at the jazz-themed night on Friday, January 23, from 7pm.
Over 50 artists including singers, bands, dancers and more will collaborate in a unique artistic performance based around the theme of Waltzing Matilda on Saturday, January 24, from 7pm.
An international folkloric welcome by Fijian, Filipino, African and Colonial Bush Dancers will kick-off the fourth enchanted evening on Sunday, January 25, from 6pm. A gala event featuring opera, ballet and a piano concerto will mark the Chinese New Year and the Summer in the City finale.
Free lantern-making workshops, artist visual installations and special shopping sales will also be taking place across the CBD in the lead-up to the four evenings.
“Businesses, including GBID, youth interagencies, art groups and more have all been involved in setting up a unique cultural experience, with each of the enchanted evenings organised by a different artistic director from our community,” said Mr. Gatti.
