Main stage to rock on Australia Day

12-01-2009 12:00 AM

A tribute to Australian rock and roll led by Aussie icon, Lucky Starr, is one of the main stage drawcards at the Gosford waterfront on Australia Day.

One of the founding members of Australian pop music and Gosford City's 2009 Australia Day local ambassador, Lucky Starr will perform a range of rock and roll favourites from 3pm to 4:15pm on the main stage at Gosford Waterfront, including his timeless hit, "I've been Everywhere".

Other highlights on the main stage include performances by Central Coast Concert Band, disabled performing group The Happy Tappers as well as dance and cultural heritage presentations from around the world.

At 12:15pm, Lucky Starr will be accompanied on stage by national Australia Day ambassador, Little Pattie for the official Australia Day ceremony.

On the water, the water-fun raft race is once again on this year's program with no entry fee for 2009. Dragon boat races, a sail past and beach games will also be a highlight.

Additionally, from 10am, the water stage will feature an array of entertainment including a re-enactment of the first fleet landing and performances by Gosford City's youth bands.

Mayor of Gosford City, Clr Chris Holstein said the event was about coming together to celebrate what's great about Australia and being Australian - like thong-throwing, raft races, bush poems and yarns!

"We're in a lucky country and have plenty to celebrate, living in such a beautiful part of the world.

"And what better way to do that than with an event that offers fun-filled activities for the whole family, from market and food stalls, live entertainment, competitions and rides, to boat races and traditional beach activities."

In the evening, families can head down to Woy Woy for more entertainment including a spectacular lantern procession on the waterfront and fireworks.
