Dogs and Cats Day Out

24-07-2009 12:00 AM

It's time to round up Rover and collect Kitty as Council is celebrating responsible animal ownership by inviting local residents to a Dogs and Cats Day Out event.

As part of Gosford City Council's Local Government Week activities, the event will be held on Sunday 9 August at Gosford Racecourse, Racecourse Rd, West Gosford from 10 am - 2pm.

Dogs and Cats Day Out will enable owners to have their dogs and cats microchipped for a reduced rate of $10 by authorised RSPCA staff.

Attendees can also pay for lifetime registration for their companion animal on the day. Registration fees depend on the animal breed and whether or not it is desexed.

Mayor of Gosford City, Councillor Chris Holstein said the event helps to raise awareness about the responsibilities involved in caring for a pet and offers dog and cat owners a variety of information to promote responsible pet ownership.

"Microchipping your pet is not just a legal requirement, it also allows Council and others to return lost or stray animals to their owners," said Clr Holstein.

"Residents who attend will be able to obtain information on pet care and off leash areas and the event will also feature The German Shepherd Demonstration Team performing an obedience and agility display.  There will be something to suit every person and their pet," Clr Holstein added.

Residents are asked to ensure their dog is on a leash at all times or their cat is contained in a pet carrier when attending on the day.

Experts and suppliers interested in participating please contact Council's Environmental Education Officer Maree Whelan on 4325 8222.
