Drop your e-waste at Council's Erina Depot for free

On Sunday 9 August 2009 from 8am until 1pm, Gosford City Council will hold an e-waste collection at Council's Erina Works Depot on Pateman Road (off Central Coast Highway).
Residents will be able to drop unwanted items including; old televisions, computers, monitors, printers, fax machines, DVDs, CDs, photocopiers, scanners, mobile phones, leads and cables at the Erina Depot. White goods will not be accepted.
With the aim of reducing the level of discarded electronic goods going into landfill tips, the free e-waste collection coincides with Local Government Week 2009 and will help promote the environmental protection activities throughout NSW local councils.
Senior Technical Officer of Waste Services at Gosford City Council, James Lawson, believes e-waste is a rapidly increasing problem for the environment.
“The average computer contains 2.5 kilograms of lead, mercury, beryllium, cadmium, barium and other recoverable metals. This collection day is a great start for Gosford City businesses and households to recycle their electronic goods," added Mr Lawson.
Items will be transferred to the Thiess Services e-recycling facility at North Wyong. Scott Smith from Thiess Services said that this initiative is a big step forward in e-recycling on the Central Coast.
"We are expecting to successfully recycle over 95% of the e-waste goods delivered," said Mr Smith.
