Local athletes and artists shine internationally
The Central Coast Regional Organisation of Councils (CCROC) has granted Central Coast athletes and artists $7,000 in sponsorship to participate at international sporting and cultural events.
Bensville residents Alex McIntyre, 17, and Robert McIntyre, 16, have both received a $1000 grant each to represent Australia in the Junior World Wildwater Championships in Switzerland this month. To be selected, Alex and Robert both participated in a series of Wildwater races in Tasmania, including two Australian Championships; the Wildwater Disciplines of Classic Downriver and the Rapid Sprint Format.
The Central Coast Journey of Dreams Art Group will collect a $5000 grant to represent the Central Coast and Australia in the 'Journey of dreams' Art Exhibition in Singapore from October until December 2009. The artists chosen will represent the Aboriginal Culture and both the Gosford and Wyong local government areas.
A joint initiative of Gosford City and Wyong Shire Councils, CCROC provides sponsorship to residents who have been selected by a national, state or regional body to participate in a recognised sporting or cultural event.
In return for sponsorship, the recipients promote the Central Coast in the local, interstate and international arenas.
