2009年07月02日 00時00分

The Central Coast Filipino Community celebrated the 111th anniversary of the Declaration of Philippine Independence last Tuesday 30 June, with a ceremony and morning tea hosted by the Mayor of Gosford City, Clr Chris Holstein.

In his address to guests, Clr Holstein emphasised the impact of the Filipino community within Gosford City, in particular, their involvement with the 5 Lands Walk.

"For the first time, the 5 Lands Walk featured the Filipino culture in addition to the Aboriginal culture, to share with the day's activities.

"The Filipino community embraced the opportunity, involving themselves with the celebrations, demonstrating great enthusiasm and pride.

"They have made significant contributions to the area and are a valued and well respected part of our community", added Clr Holstein.

The special guest of the morning was the Philippine Vice Consul J. Anthony Reyes, who attended the ceremony on behalf of Consul General, the Honorable Eva Betita.

To coincide with the celebrations, the Australian-Filipino Association of the Central Coast also commemorated their 20-year anniversary.

Guests were treated to traditional Filipino singing and dance performances before enjoying a morning tea featuring native Filipino foods.
