Central Coast Drinking Water Supply Safe

12-06-2009 04:45 PM

The Central Coast town water supply remains safe for consumption.

Gosford City and Wyong Shire Councils wish to reassure the Central Coast community that the supply is safe in response to an article in today's Central Coast Express Advocate.

Water supplied to the Central Coast community receives thorough treatment and ongoing stringent  testing to ensure a safe, high quality water supply for the Central Coast Community that complies with Australian Drinking Water Guidelines.

Water quality samples are collected at various sites throughout the water supply system and tested by the Councils and Independent laboratories registered with National Association of Testing Authorities (NATA) and NSW Health.

The Councils have also become aware that some Central Coast residents have been approached by individuals implying they represent Council. These individuals may claim the residents’ water needs to be tested as the water supply may be unsafe for drinking.

These individuals or businesses do not represent either Council.

Council officers may occasionally need to visit resident’s property in relation to the water supply, however they will never offer water filters or other products for sale. All Council officers will carry identification which includes the Council logo and the staff members’ name.

Council Officers will never request money directly from residents while visiting their property.

If residents are contacted by individuals claiming the water supply is unsafe and insists on entering their property to conduct tests on their town water supply or demands money to install a water filter or fix a perceived problem with the supply, they should report it to the NSW Office of Fair Trading on 13 32 20.
