Gosford Seniors Keep The Ball Rolling

2009年06月01日 00時00分

Activities at the Gosford Seniors Centre are continuing full steam ahead, with alternative venues providing an outlet for senior citizens to continue their myriad of classes.

With Gosford City Council being given the green light by WorkCover NSW to proceed with the air conditioning works at the Gosford Seniors Centre, Council was granted access to vacant shops at the Gosford Town Centre to accommodate senior's activities while the works are completed.

After seeking quotations, tendering and construction, members will once again be able to enjoy the full use of the facilities at the centre after approximately 12 weeks.

Terry Thirlwell, Director of Community Services and Organisational Development at Gosford City Council, says that member's safety is paramount and extends his apology for the delay.

" We will not put our seniors at risk", said Mr Thirlwell. "While there is a period of time until the centres can again be operational, Council is fully committed to ensuring that as many activities as possible are kept running at alternative venues during this period".

Activities include table tennis at on Mondays and Fridays in Shop 118 at the Gosford Town Centre.

Paul Ardill, Table Tennis Convener at the Gosford Seniors Centre, says that participating members are enjoying playing again since the centre temporarily closed.

"All members are enjoying coming and having a game with everyone again. Whilst the temporary venue is noisy, it's ninety percent laughter.

"The prerequisite for table tennis with our club is to come, enjoy yourself and have fun - which I think everyone here is doing", added Mr Ardill.

Also at the Gosford Town Centre, line dancing is being held at Shop 118 on Wednesdays. Please enquire on the number below.

Other activities include four new computer classes, which have commenced on Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays. These classes have been relocated to the Niagara Park Community Centre, Washington Avenue at Niagara Park.

Classes are available to those who have pre booked; however bookings can still be taken for future classes. Please book on the number below to ensure a place.
