Household Chemical Cleanout

On Sunday 26 August 2012, Gosford City Council will once again host a Household Chemical Cleanout, giving residents an opportunity to dispose of dangerous chemicals from around their home.
The Cleanout will be held in the Gosford Showground Car Park, Showground Road, Gosford between 9am and 3.30pm.
The collection allows a safe and environmentally friendly way for members of the community to get rid of dangerous or hazardous chemicals from around their home including paints, pesticides, gas bottles, fire extinguishers and pool chemicals.
Gosford City Council’s Senior Waste Officer, Mr. Sanchaya Parajuli says that organisers received an extraordinary response to the Cleanout held earlier this year.
“During Council’s Cleanout event in March this year we had 1030 cars dispose of 39 tonnes of chemicals - an overwhelming response from local residents.
“Since the inception of the Cleanout program, the Gosford City community has recycled close to 460,000 kilograms of chemicals.
“This is an excellent result for our environment as many of the materials being disposed will be recycled or reused,” said Mr. Parajuli.
The Cleanout will accept a maximum of 20 litres or 20 kilograms per item. Residents are advised not to mix the chemicals and to handle with extreme caution.
