Record Numbers at the Peninsula Leisure Centre
The Peninsula Leisure Centre (PLC) is celebrating record attendance numbers with over 400,000 people visiting the modern and innovative aquatic venue during the 2011-2012 period; the highest number since it commenced operation in 2005.
With the inclusion of these record numbers the PLC has now had over 2.5 million visitors to the Centre.
Highlights over the PLC’s seven year history include winning the Australian Aquatic and Recreation Institute’s prestigious AH Pierce Memorial Facility of the Year Award and playing host to the Australian Short Course Team before the European Championships in 2008 as well as becoming more environmentally sustainable by installing a solar pool heating system this year.
Gosford City Council’s Acting Coordinator of Leisure and Lifestyle, Ms Karen Tucker says that the PLC prides itself on being an asset that everyone can enjoy.
“At the PLC we have a strong focus on providing quality facilities and services that cater for the many different needs of our community and we are hopeful that the record levels of attendance are an indication that we are achieving our goals.
“Our Learn to Swim Program has grown in strength since the Centre opened with attendance at 39,931 last year which is a 36% growth since the Centre opened. The program was recognised for its community value with PLC being awarded the 2007 NSW Water Safety Award for Contribution to Water Safety by an Organisation.
“We have a wide range of activities that cater for the young and young at heart, including Super Kids, senior’s fitness classes and training opportunities including the popular accredited pool lifeguard qualification offered in conjunction with the Royal Life Saving Society Australia.
“The PLC doesn’t only offer fitness and recreational activities; our cafe is also very popular with over 112,000 coffees and 48,000 serves of hot chips being served during our seven year history.
“We are constantly looking for ways to improve the services and facilities on offer and are confident that with the ongoing support of the community the PLC will continue to grow well into the future,” Ms Tucker said.
The PLC is located at 243 Blackwall Road, Woy Woy. For more information on services and facilities at the PLC, phone 4325 8123 or visit www.gosford.nsw.gov.au
