Kincumba hazard reduction burn on Monday
Weather permitting, a hazard reduction burn will take place this Monday (September 25) at Kincumba Mountain Reserve in the area south of Koolang Road, Green Point.
Kincumba Mountain Reserve walking tracks and trails will be closed during the operation and sightseers are warned to keep away from the area.
Conducted by Gosford City Council, the NSW Rural Fire Service and NSW Fire Brigades, the burn will provide significant protection against wildfires for over 200 homes located close to the reserve.
Only bore water collected from the bore water filling station at Grahame Park and rainwater from Council's Erina Depot will be used to extinguish the burn, said Council's Director of City Services, Stephen Glen.
Over the last six weeks, rain, strong winds and then above average temperatures delayed the burn three times. Monday's operation will only proceed if weather conditions are suitable.
All people living close to the reserve have been alerted and advised that anyone suffering breathing difficulties should remain indoors.
As hazard reduction burns can generate thick smoke, people living close to the reserve have also been advised to keep doors and windows closed and to protect outdoor furniture against the risk of flying embers.
Pool covers should also be retracted and no washing hung on outdoor lines.
Pets should be kept indoors and livestock moved to shelter.
Vehicles must reduce speed and use their headlights in all smoke-affected areas.
