An Expo promoting playgrounds as focal gathering places for local communities will be held during Children's Week next month.
Bringing communities back to the playground is the theme of the Gosford Playground Expo to be held in the Erina Centre, Erina Fair, on October 21 from 10am-3pm.
Reality TV star, Adro Sarnelli, from Australia's Biggest Loser, and Kate Fraser of the NSW Kidsafe Plaground Advisory Unit will be guest speakers on the day, highlighting the benefits of physical activity and play for children.
The Expo is a joint venture of the Better Playground Action Group, Families at the Fair and Gosford City Council.
As well as featuring a wide range of stallholders and providing information on playgrounds, the Expo will highlight "community ownership" of local parks and playgrounds, said Kylie Yeend, Council's Coordinator Parks and Waterways.
"We want to encourage the use of parks and playgrounds as safe places for residents to hold a picnic, have a chat, or meet and form friendships with other members of the local community," she said.
"This expands the role of playgrounds from being 'a place to take the kids' to being the hub of community life for young and old.
"We're hoping everyone interested in improving playgrounds, redefining their roles, and learning how playgrounds benefit child development will attend the Expo."
