Renowned child psychologist, Dr John Irvine, will be a guest speaker at the Gosford Playground Expo this Saturday (October 21) from 10am-3pm at the Erina Centre, Erina Fair.

Gosford City Mayor, Laurie Maher, officially opened Broadwater Park, Kincumber, in September, 2006.

Reality TV star, Adro Sarnelli, from Australia's Biggest Loser will also discuss the importance of physical activity in childhood for minimizing later obesity problems. 

A joint venture of the Better Playground Action Group, Families at the Fair and Gosford City Council, the Expo will feature a wide range of stallholders as well as providing information on playgrounds.  

With the theme Bringing Communities back to the Playground, the Expo highlights the benefits of "community ownership" of local parks and playgrounds, said Kylie Yeend, Council's Coordinator Parks and Waterways. 

"We want to expand the role of playgrounds from being 'a place to take the kids' to being the hub of community life for young and old," she said. 

"We're hoping everyone interested in improving playgrounds, redefining their roles, and learning how playgrounds benefit child development will attend the Expo."
