WATER CYCLE MANAGEMENT PLAN CONTINUES TO KEEP GOSFORD GREEN
At Last weeks Council meeting amendments to Gosford City Council's leading Development Control Plan 165 - Water Cycle Management were adopted.
Previously DCP165 - Water Cycle Management only regulated the impact of new development on the natural water cycle in residential areas. The review of DCP 165 was undertaken to address the worsening drought and the introduction of BASIX, as well as to extend the DCP to encompass all forms of new development.
The amendments will assist in increasing the use of alternative water sources and on-site water storage systems, reducing nuisance flood flows, improving water quality in local streams and groundwater systems and the evaluation of more efficient use of water resources.
'The need to reduce the amount of drinking water unnecessarily consumed both domestically and in industry and utilise alternate supplies in all areas is extremely important', Gosford City Mayor Laurie Maher said. 'At the same time we must maintain the quality of our natural waterways and the environment'.
'These amendments will ensure that we continue to maintain and restore the natural water balance in residential areas.'
'Encouraging environmental flows will assist and benefit long term drought works while keeping our city green', said Mr Maher.
Gosford City Council is leading the way with DCP 165 - Water Cycle Management, being one of only a few councils who have adopted such extensive controls.
