Kincumba Mountain

Kincumba Mountain Reserve lies approximately 6 km south-east of Gosford City Centre. The major public use area is located at Honeyman's Rock, accessible by road along Island View Drive off Kincumber Street, Kincumber. Magnificent views to the coast, Brisbane Water and Sydney skyline can be experienced from various lookouts located in the reserve.

The name "Kincumba" is derived from the aboriginal word meaning "towards the rising sun" or "to tomorrow". Prior to its present use the site remained principally undeveloped. The area had been restricted to selective logging and minor cropping with the only improvements being access tracks for fire control. The largest clearing located at the top of the ridge contained "Honeyman's Homestead".

Kincumba Mountain rises to a height of 200 metres and forms part of the Hornsby Plateau and is comprised of Hawkesbury Sandstone underlain by shales and sandstones of the Narrabeen group. The area is geologically and ecologically diverse possessing samples of most of the landforms, soils, flora and fauna communities occurring within Gosford.

Due to the encroachment of urban development surrounding this area little of the native animal population remains. Sightings of grey kangaroos, wombats and echidnas have been recorded. The reserve also hosts reptiles and bird life of diverse species including Blue-tounged Lizards and Rainbow Lorikeets. The indigenous vegetation of the reserve consists of ten distinct communities including one of the largest undisturbed rainforests on the Central Coast which occurs on the southern part of the ridge system.
