The Spike Milligan Bridge Plaque Unveiling

Clr Jim Macfadyen Mayor of Gosford City Council and Desmond Milligan unveiled "The Spike Milligan Bridge" Plaque Saturday 29 March 2008 as a part of the naming of the pedestrian cycleway bridge.

The Spike Milligan Bridge designed by local bridge designer Jim Alexander is an award winning bridge 25.8 metres above sea level at its highest point and 85 metres in length.

It has utilised concrete power poles in its design and makes for a great view across Woy Woy inlet

and Rileys Island. Gosford CBD can also be viewed from this bridge.

As the bridge is being more and more frequently used by locals and visitors alike visitors are asked to

keep to the left when using this bridge.

The bridge was funded by the Roads and Traffic Authority of New South Wales and Gosford City Council. The bridge also acts as a symbolic welcome to the Woy Woy Peninsula.

The bridge demonstrates that Gosford City Council is committed to improving its cycleway network.

The bridge is an integral part of the NSW Coastline Cycleway Strategy to link the NSW Coast as a cycle tourism destination.

To see photos of the bridge construction go to the Spike Milligan Room in the Woy Woy Library 1200 metres south of the bridge in Woy Woy. Woy Woy Railway Station is accessible via Central Station.

Other recent cycle related projects in Gosford include the construction of the 3 metre wide

cycleway from Brickwharf Road leading to the Peninsula Leisure Centre located on Blackwall Road.

On its completion it is anticipated that visitors from Sydney and Palm Beach will be able to catch the ferry with their bicycle and cycle all the way towards Gosford CBD and Gosford foreshore.
